Been busy with work and guitar lessons and some of you have probably seen the video since I believe Toren's posted links to it here and there. For those who haven't seen it I'll put a link to it in this post as well.
Background... A few years ago I took Diggin' Up The World and changed the words a little and performed the song along with a guitarist by the name of Robert Cantrell at a Guitar Center in El Toro California and proposed to my wife afterward. She loves all kinds of music and I wanted to do something different.
Three years later and for our second anniversary I came up with a crazy idea to go into a recording studio and record the song and make a CD for my wife and give it to her as a gift. I couldn't find Cantrell, he no longer works at Guitar Center and doesn't seem to be on the internet anywhere. Luckily there's a music school in the same building complex where I work, so I went in and pitched my idea to Craig, the owner of Rancho Canyon Music, and he passed the information on to a couple of his guitar teachers. The first one to respond was Tyler Page, a 19 year old kid who was enthusiastic about the project and wanted to give it shot. The first rehearsal was a little scary, but Tyler's attitude was awesome and I knew then that I wanted him to play guitar for the song.
The studio was also a lucky find, California Sound Studios, a few miles from where I worked. Owned and operated by Frank Wright and his sons Nathan and Jesse. They were all helpful and answered my questions and made me feel comfortable instead of intimidated. They had a few big name artists on their lists that had used the studio so I felt they knew what they were doing. Frank has played guitar for Sony Cher and Chicago to name a few and also is in a band with Sammy Hagar.
When the date arrived, my friend, best man from the wedding, attended the recording session and took pictures and video of everything and put it together as anniversary gift to my wife and I. Frank met with us before the session and brought out his personal Takamine 12-string guitar and told us we could use it if we wanted... which we did use because the sound it generated was unbelievable.
So my wife now how has a permanent recording of a song that really has a special meaning to both of us. Even though I changed the words slightly, it's still a Thickets song and Toren was extremely supportive of the idea when I emailed him.
As a side note, Tyler Page has been playing guitar since he was twelve and Craig, the owner of the music school was his teacher.

Re: Diggin' Up The World - Video
I've spent the week writing lyrics to a song I plan to record for my wife for next year's *June* anniversary... it would be against the Thickets "Math Song" rule I'm sure.
I've learned that writing about emotions is what most songs are about, scary stuff, sad stuff, and love... *hides from the tentacled beast lurking in the forum depths*
I was going to co-write the song with the owner of the sound studio, but after careful thought I turned down their offer and decided to leave my comfort zone and give it try on my own. Choosing the right words that flow together is an art form that I have yet to explore in great depths, but when it happens it's a pretty amazing thing. Makes me truly appreciate the Thickets hard work a lot more.
Unfortunately the new song won't have any Cthulhu references or cultist trying take over my car, ship, or home... at the moment a verse has a reference to "Diggin' up the World" in it, I think I owe the Thickets that much, if TOrEN and the Thickets approve and don't mind me placing it in there.
TOrEN, I can email you the lyrics if you wish.

Re: Diggin' Up The World - Video
Been working with a guitarist and bass player putting the new song together and last night we brought a drummer into the rehearsal and I liked his ideas and now it seems that all the pieces are in place and we're scheduled to go in to the recording studio on May 2 to record the song.
Question: We have an 8 hour block of studio time and the song may not take that long to record and fine tune so we thought it would be fun to do another cover song... I'm going to suggest a Thickets song but not sure which one, but one that has been tabbed would make things a little easier. I'd like to also pick a song that will give each person (guitar, bass, drums) in the it a chance to stand out, Frogstar is one for example, what are some others I might want to consider?
