The Top’sters Are On To Me

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

While I was eating chicken and broccoli at Top’s today the ba ba (father) and his daughters came in. Normally it’s just me and the ma ma. Ba ba saw that I was studying my pu tong hua and so I had a very xiao conversation which was little more than

“how are you”
“I’m good”
“thank you”
“goodbye”

But he said I spoke it well so that’s something. Watch out China, here comes whitey. I didn’t know how to say “there’s a fly in my lunch” so I left it at that.

18 Days Until SMCP

I’m getting excited about the Saturday Morning Cartoon Party. I still haven’t decided on a theme. In the running:

April Fool’s: A good theme given the day of the party. There is a Star Trek Animated episode called “Practical Joker” and I can think of a couple other cartoons that could squeeze into the theme (Clone High, Powerpuff Girls, Sea Lab 2021) but what about Battle of the Planets, 1940’s Superman, and Galaxy Rangers? Difficult.

Mind Swap: I’ve considered this theme for years now. Super fun and “The Tick vs Science” is one of my favourite episodes, plus there’s “The Great Brain Robbery” a recent episode of Justice League Unlimited that’s quite good.

Monsters: A nice general theme that could give me a wide range of choices.

Eldritch Horrors: I recently watched a Freakazoid! episode that I had on tape for years but never got around to watching. Cthulhu was in it. There’s also Cthulhu episodes of Real Ghostbusters, Justice League (but it’s long), and…oh I guess that’s it. Damn.

Best Of: When I was planning on moving to China I thought this might be the last SMCP for a while, so I wanted to really show off my favourite episodes of all time. Now I don’t know where I’ll be next year (so there’s still no guarantee there will be another SMCP).

I sooooooooo want to crack open thos Coco Straws I got in the mail from the UK. Got to…unh!

Firetrucks. Lots of them. All around the construction site that desecrated my tennis courts, which previously desecrated an ancient Indian burial groud. We (Mike Jackson, Joe, Patrick, and David Bradley) were in the middle of playing Mutants & Masterminds when the power went out. We navigated the apartment by the light of two laptops (by the way, there are apparently 3 wireless connections that hit my apartment, if anyone wants to come over and do their homework) and lit up a half dozen candles so we could keep playing. So romantic. Or spooky, whichever you prefer. To add to the mood, about a dozen sirens screaming around the neighborhood as at least four firetrucks converged on the construction site.

The power came on about a half hour later, and I reset all the clocks (and my relic of an answering machine). It went out again at 2-something in the morning. For reasons unknown, I woke up when it came back on. Stewie was up and about and he told me it was out for 10 minutes. So I reset the clocks again. In my drowsiness, I didn’t think to reset my alarm though. Good thing I woke up every half hour after about 7am for some ungodly reason, and I was actually early for work.

This reminds me of something that happened at Stephane’s birthday part. While we were in the middle of Mario Party we all heard someone yelling “put your hands up! Put your hands up! PUT…YOUR…HANDS…UP!!!” There were about 8-10 cop cars right in front of Sherane’s place arresting someone across the street. With guns waving around the rest of the guys decided to go out and have a closer look on the porch, while I turned off the light in the living room and watched through the blinds in the dark. Ha! No stray bullets for me! We went back to our game and they had this guy sitting handcuffed on the sidewalk for half an hour! Weird.
