SOUS - Squids of Unusual Size

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Lord Geekington posts a fascinating article about very large squid. Read it [here] if you wish. Or just look at this chart:

That guy at the top is you. Now pretend that it’s a screenshot from a video game.

I am looking forward to this show

Spaceship Zero Comic Page 2

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

More monkeying around. I pretty much finished inking page two, but I am going to go back and fiddle with some things. I screwed up page one in that I added the balloons before I shrunk the art down to comic book size, so the edges of the balloons are too thin.

On this second page I started screwing around with tones, as you can see, but I’m not too sold on the idea. I have my original lineart scanned in so I think I’m going to go back and put in some tones by hand, with crosshatching and whatnot. Hopefully I won’t ruin the art.

Pathfinder (Now With More Accuracy)

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

This Pathfinder movie (link) looks kind of interesting. Kind of Frazetta-ish in style, though I am getting pretty sick of movies dressing up history to make it more “cool.” Case in point Frank Miller’s 300. One of the things that makes real history (and modern times) so interesting is that you can’t tell who the bad guys are just by looking at them. Dressing the vikings up in black skulls doesn’t really make them evil, just more 2-dimensional. It would be more interesting if I could see their faces. Cuz…you know…they weren’t robots.

Who’s Got An Enormous Cthulhu Quilt?

Not me. But my roommate does. Is it wrong to sneak into his room to envelope myself in CCC (Cthulhu’s Comfy Clutches)?

Thanks to Duncan for the photo.

SSZ Comic: Inked & Ballooned (page 1)

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I am going to add some tones to this, but here, essentially, is page one.ssz-page-1-inks-balloons-72dpi.jpg

I see 5 punctuation errors.

Crazy Asian = Crasian

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

There is an old Klingon proverb that says anything can be improved by adding either chocolate or cheese. Well, we’ve all had chocolate cheesecake but now we can also have chocolate flavoured cheese slices.

And here as promised is a scan of the box that contained the tiny individually-wrapped green tea flavoured KitKat bars I got in Richmond. Check it out. Virtually to scale.

Rockonomics: Pick Your Marine Biologist

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Mike and Taylor came over today to take some photos for the liner notes for The Shadow Out of Tim. Here, Mike is portraying Dr. Timothy O. Vess, as introduced in the second song on the album “A Marine Biologist.” My question for you - does any one of these shots jump out at you as boldly superior? I’m having a hard time deciding.
